Formal complaint documents

Anyone can share feedback for the Austin Police Department (APD) or file a complaint against an Austin police officer. The Office of Police Oversight conducts a preliminary review of all complaints with information made available from the Internal Affairs (IA), a division of APD. If we determine the incident may be a violation of Austin Police Department policy, we send a Notice of Formal Complaint document to Internal Affairs. This notice notifies IA/APD of the OPO request that they begin an investigation of the complaint. If IA/APD determine they will investigate the OPO will monitor all complaint investigations and provide updates to the complainant if they provide their contact information.
